Howard Wilkinson, the one-time England caretaker coach and technical director, has today joined Notts County Football Club as a non-executive Director.

His role is not as manager nor as a Director of Football, but to bring his vast football experience to the Club Board and to advise caretaker manager Ian Richardson.

It marks a return to Notts County for Wilkinson who worked alongside Jimmy Sirrel in the late 1970s and early 80s, before taking over in the hot-seat at Meadow Lane in 1982.

In a long managerial career Wilkinson led Sheffield Wednesday to the top flight in his first season at the helm and guided them to a fifth place finish just two years later. He later steered Leeds United from a club languishing in the old Second Division to winning the title in the last year of the old Football League.

Since then Wilkinson has worked at the FA as a Technical Director – charged with developing the national game in England - and twice stepped in as caretaker manager of the senior national team.

At the age of 59, Wilkinson left his post with the FA to team up with Steve Cotterill, to form the new management duo at Sunderland. His spell in charge was a brief and unsuccessful one, leaving Wearside after a difficult five month period.

In October 2004 Wilkinson was appointed temporary coach at Leicester City, assisting caretaker manager Dave Bassett following the departure of Micky
Adams.

It is clear Wilkinson's addition to the Notts County Club Board of Directors
brings a wealth of experience, and the Supporters Trust would like to extend
a warm welcome back to him.
