Many supporters will have heard the news from Colin Slater this morning that Saturday's round of meetings did not achieve a breakthrough in the take-over of Notts County Football Club. The Club still remains in the hands of the Administrator, Paul Finnity as Monday's meeting of the Football League looms ever closer.
From discussions today, the position appears to be as follows.
It has been confirmed to the Trust by Sam McEwan, that the finance deal which underpinned the Bhatia/Strang bid has fallen through and is no longer on the table. However, Mr. McEwan has stated that an alternative finance deal with a PLC company has now been secured and that this will form the basis of the take-over bid. Mr. McEwan has expressed his confidence that this bid will be successful, that the necessary finance is available and that the relevant issues will be satisfied before Notts County are discussed by the Football League Directors tomorrow. At this stage, the Trust can only report Mr. McEwan's statement. We will be seeking further verification on these comments throughout the rest of the day.
The Trust has also spoken to Paul Finnity and has stressed the need with him for supporters to given as much information about the current position. Mr Finnity has confirmed that negotiations are continuing today and the Trust will be speaking to him again as soon as possible.
The Trust are also working with the Supporters-Direct organisation to ensure that the voice of Notts supporters is heard by Football League Directors before their meeting tomorrow. We will be lobbying the Football League to give the Club more time to resolve the situation if that proves necessary. The Club currently has no Owner or Board of Directors. Thus, any punishment inflicted on our Club would, in the current situation, simply be punishing supporters and playing staff who have no responsibility whatsoever for the current position we find ourselves in. We will be making this point strongly to the Football League.
The Trust recognises that, during the current negotiations, there is confidential information which it would be irresponsible for parties to place in the public arena immediately, as this may jeopardise the negotiations. However, the Trust demands from the key players in this take-over saga, that every opportunity is taken to inform supporters about what is happening at their football club at the earliest possible opportunity.
Further updates will appear here soon.
