To celebrate the national Fairtrade Fortnight (26th Feb - 11th March) Change Today, Choose Fairtrade, the Supporters Trust has a special Fairtrade football to give away.

The aim of the campaign is to challenge people to make small changes, and by switching to choose Fairtrade products this will trigger a positive change in communities in developing countries. The direct benefits to producers and workers in the developing world mean they in turn will be able to begin to make changes to their lives and environment.

To enter the competition simply answer the following question: when is this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight? Please e-mail your answer, including your contact details to community@nottscotrust.org.uk. The closing date for enteries is Friday 23rd March. The winner will be announced in the next match-day programme (Saturday 31st March, versus Grimsby Town FC).

I am worried about the damage to the environment that buying these footballs might have, given that they are flown in from far away countries instead of being made in the UK.
Please could you put my mind at rest.

Please could you also ease my concerns about the conditions in which the cows that were killed to make the leather for the footballs were kept. Can we be sure that no animal has suffered in this process.

PS, Have you noticed that we have a crap football team and a clueless manager.

Kevin's humour or cynicism (I'm not sure which) shouldn't distract from an excellent promotion by the club. We are rightly keen to see the best from Notts but if we can do that whilst maintaining support for those who produce many of the goods we take for granted then so much the better.

Buying fairly traded coffee, tea, chocolate, bananas and footballs (etc) costs only a little bit more, but significantly improves the lives of those who work to supply us.

I would now like to see Notts County adopt a fair trade policy. All the produce sold in the catering facilities and the shop should be fair trade whenever possible. We could follow Brentford's example of having fair trade footballs, and how much better to warm the heart and as well as the hands at half-time with a fair trade drink.
