Press Release - For Immediate Release

7th September 2003

Trust hails "magnificent support" for Magpies Survival Fund

Fans of Notts County Football Club and from other clubs across the country raised in the region of £50,000 at Meadow lane yesterday as part of a huge effort to save the world's oldest football league club from extinction.

With donations and pledges still coming in and being counted up, Notts County Supporters Trust has now accumulated around half of the £250,000 needed to secure the short-term future of Notts County.

The Trust needs to raise the £250,000 by Monday September 8th to assist the "Blenheim" consortium who are putting together a package which it is hoped can satisfy the requirements of the Football League at its meeting on Monday and the Creditors Voluntary Agreement.

The Trust remains in discussions with regard to contingency arrangements to ensure that the Football League can be satisfied that the £250,000 will be available before the meeting on Monday. Indications at this time are positive that this can be achieved and that Notts County's ongoing membership of the Football League can be maintained for now.

However, it is vital that fundraising and donations continue in order that the target of at least £250,000 can be delivered as soon as possible.

The Trust would like to place on record its wholehearted thanks to everyone who has rallied round so magnificently over the last few days.

The message is clear - we will not let the world's oldest football league club die.

Trust Chairman David Hindley says:

"The support we have received so far has been absolutely tremendous. The way supporters from Notts County have rallied round has been simply magnificent. And the response from fans of other clubs up and down the country has just been brilliant. Everyone seems to want to help and, at times like these, it makes you feel proud to be a football supporter.

But we still need to raise at least £250,000 and there is a long way to go yet. This is only the beginning and there are many weeks of hard work ahead for the Trust and for Notts County fans. Things look a bit more positive for the Football League meeting on Monday but Notts County aren't saved yet. We still desperately need the cash. We still need the donations to keep coming in to save this club".
