A number of Trust members have been in touch about the reasoning behind moving the Hereford game to this Friday night. There have been some concerns expressed that Friday will be the last working day before Xmas which may have an impact on some people's ability to attend the match. The Trust were not originally consulted on this decision but, in order to clarify the position, the Trust Board have spoken to Club Chief Executive, Geoff Davey, who has clarified the position as follows.
The decision to move the game was based on a combination of all of the three main factors below.
Firstly, it is Geoff's opinion that holding the game on the Friday has, on balance the potential to attract a better attendance than by keeping it as a Saturday fixture. This is Geoff's judgement as a highly experienced Chief Executive and is a consideration made in order to get the best outcome for the Club.
Secondly, that Nottingham Rugby Club have a fixture at Meadow Lane on the following Sunday and that the decision gives an extra day to ensure the ground is made ready to be able to accommodate both fixtures.
Finally, it was the preference of the Manager, Steve Thompson to play the game on the Friday so that the players would have an extra day between the Hereford and the Stockport game on Boxing Day as the hectic fixture schedule over the Xmas and New Year period begins.
Geoff was keen to point out that if only one of the factors above had applied in this case, that might not have been enough to make the decision to move the fixture. However, the combination of all three factors was the deciding point in making the move to the Friday night.
While it's clear that some fans may be disadvantaged by this decision to move the fixture due to pre-arranged commitments, we understand the reasoning behind this.
On a very positive note, during the discussions, the question of consultation was raised. We are delighted that Geoff is keen to put in place a consultation mechanism for any future potential fixture changes and the Trust will be speaking further with Geoff about how to take this forward in due course.
We would like to thank Geoff for helping with this clarification.
