Okay, we know it'll be one member one vote but how will those interested in such positions be given the opportunity to put their case forward?

Any more details on the board selection would be useful...

Paul,

a good question and one that needs to be well thought out. For starters one thing we can do is consult other Trusts like Derby, York, Leicester, who have all offered help, to see how they went about doing it.

The temporary working group will presumably have to recommend how many officials there will be on the committee. Also what the key posts wil be, chairman, secretary or whatever and if they are voted for seperately or elected from within the commiittee by the committee members. Again the other trusts and Supporters Direct can advise and I am sure Fred will already have some information.

Clearly, when the time comes, we will need to make sure all members are made aware of the opportunity to stand for election. We will then need to make sure that there is a cost-effective election process that is beyond reproach and one that gives all candidates the opportunity to clearly state their case.

Sorry, I am stating the obvious here, but I found it useful as I hadn't given it much thought so far :-).

Hi
Now first I'll apologise for some entirley incorrect info I gave out to Grantham Pie
earlier on this board. I can only say at the time I supplied it I believed it was correct
and i did add the caveat to answer I was winging it. (Lesson 1 dont wing it)

Having had some documentation/contact with Supporters Direct I feel more confident this is the case. The first elections of the board must be held as soon as reasonably practical and definitely within six months of the first general meeting. The election is by secret ballot and several trusts now outsource their elections to organisations such as
electroral reform services providing a postal ballot service with the opportunity for candidates to include a statement with the ballot papers. Others use
supporters direct or other independent well-respected figures in the community to count the ballot papers.
At this stage in the trust formation the working group has not reached an opinion on how to run the election. But we would hope to hold it well within the six months time limit and
because of holidays etc are possibly looking at May.
