Press Release - For Immediate Release
5th April 2003
Notts County Supporters Trust Successfully Launched
A packed meeting made history at the Oriental Suite, Meadow Lane last night (4th April) with the official launch of the Notts County Supporters Trust.
Approaching 400 supporters of the world’s oldest football league club unanimously backed the formation of the Trust and approved the make-up of the Board which will carry the Trust forward until full elections take place within the next six months.
With an impressive 350 plus members signed-up within an hour of it being formed, the Trust is now in place as a credible and influential player on behalf of supporters in helping to secure the long-term future of Notts County Football Club.
Trust Chairman, John Thornhill says;
“The number of fans who turned out for the meeting and signed up as members totally exceeded our expectations. It’s a fantastic effort and gives us a substantial membership base to build on over the coming days and weeks.
With the future of Notts County hanging in the balance, we can now play a crucial role on behalf of supporters in negotiations with key players like the administrator, potential investors and the City Council.
With deadlines looming, the short-term aim is simple – to help ensure the survival of the Club. Last night’s meeting showed the passion, pride and commitment supporters have in Notts County Football Club. It’s time to build on this and give fans a real and influential say in the future of our Club.”
Supporters-Direct representative Simon Binns who oversaw last night’s proceedings says;
“Last night’s meeting was a great success and a massive step forward for Notts County Football Club and it’s supporters.
The formation of the Trust means a stronger and more influential voice for the fans who are, after all, the real lifeblood and custodians of the Club.
Across the country in places like York, Chesterfield and Northampton, we have seen the crucial role Supporters Trusts can play in ensuring the survival of their football clubs. Now, here in Nottingham, the Trust can play a vital role in ensuring the continued existence of Notts County.”
