I expect some flames from this, but...

Having lived in various places, I tend to follow the local team. However, only where this doesn't conflict with Notts. So, my "other" clubs list contains Sheffield Wednesday, Harlow Town and now Mansfield Town.

So with the Stags playing on Sunday this weekend, I went to my first game at Field Mill. Having spent the previous night watching England self distruct and wondering if the remaining 19 home games could be any worse than the Cheltenham game, I was hoping to see a good game.

I got a lot more than that. The best match I've seen in 2 or 3 seasons. Northampton were poor, but still better than anyone I've seen in our first four home games. Mansfield ripped them apart. They've good individual players and a really well balanced 4-4-2 system.

I've not seen any of the away performances, but from what I've seen of Notts so far, we've got a lot of improving to do to be competitive.

Let's hope that those returning for international duty and injury can bring us up to the Stags' level, because at the moment, I'm fearful.

Doesn't Mansfield "conflict" with Notts????

When it's a local Derby, I'm sure the 'Pies will raise their game.

Yes, of course they conflict. But it's a league of 24. Plenty of room for both. When Notts play them, Mansfield will be just another team in the league as far as I'm concerned. But, like I said, for me football is a community sport, so I take an interest in the teams where I live too.

I know I'm in a very small minority with this view. It takes all sorts though! Smile

During my student days I spent some time living in Stafford and Chester. If couldn't get back to Nottingham I used to go and see their games.

Mind you Stafford Rangers play in Black & White stripes, so I didn't even need a new scarf Smile

Cheers
