I thought they would have had a vote for the kop, before announcing season ticket prices, I'm sure a lot of fans would have gone there but no same again next season no kop for Notts to attack! which again means being outsung!surely this has to be sorted out, the only club in the league with no Kop.

Hi Jurgen,

This issue is an often repeated one, and I can certainly recall post-takeover the safety officer being asked the same question about the Kop for home supporters.

I don't know whether the situation has changed (I suspect it hasn't) but policing was a major issue, and that primarily the Kop was designed as an away section, where it is relatively easy for travelling supporters to get on/off their coaches and for the police.

Just as an aside, before the redevelopment of Meadow Lane into an all-seater stadium, I used to regularly stand on the Kop with my Dad, and then at half-time when the teams changed ends, walk round the back of the Main Stand to stand infront of 'the wall'. In those days the Kop didn't attract that many fans, and certainly not much in the way of vocal support - that seemed to be centred around the now JS stand corner.

You could always split the kop like other teams do,or move away fans in corner of Sirrel block, theres quite a debate on the mad site about it, bit I don't believe the safety side or policing side of it, 91 other clubs can do it and we can't.

We definately need to get the kop back, there must be a way round it, otherwise notts might as well play away every game because thats what it feels like with the away supporters vocal amplification.

This was discussed on the notts mailing list a while back:
Steve Thompson raised this possibility:

"Just exploring options - I suppose the bottom line is this, to make it work we
have to take a third of the JS stand and make it the away end. Just in case we
get over 2000 we will need to ensure no season tickets are sold in the first
third of the kop nearest JS stand. Even then this causes problems - the FL will
require segregation under the stands too."

------------------

The Kop was not designed to be segregated so i think a mixture of fans in there is a non-starter. Hence probably no season tickets. However in the 3rd, the club could explore allowing the Kop to be used by home fans unless a big away following is expected.

Couldn't part of the Pavis stand be used for away fans as it is easily the most sparce of the four stands ?

I think (and this is a personal opinion) the Pavis stand would also require a fair amount of building work before it could be segregated. The Iremonger road turnstiles would presumabley have to be fenced off with them leading to the
Pavis under-stand area directly
The JS has some gates already in it in the below stand area, thus presumably it would just need sufficient gap in the seating and additional stewards.

I would imagine part of the problem with using a section of the JS Stand is the issue of segregation - in particular the lack of facilities under the stand i.e. catering bars, toilets etc. I suspect it would be less of an issue for the Main Stand, but as Fred states it would still require some building work (and at what expense?).

The way forward then, if there is sufficient support for home supporters to be housed in the Kop, is to allocate the whole of the JS Stand to travelling fans. I can remember the club undertaking a survey a few years back, which asked supporters if they would mind moving from their seats in the JS Stand and I think the majority stated they didn't.

As to wether the fans would vote for a move I very much doubt it,plus the cost of building work etc would prove too costly but a solution in my mind would be to maybe install some sort of lagging so that 50 away fans dont sound like 5000,ie alter the acoustics :roll***s:

My mate, who owns his own roofing firm, has been saying the same thing for years, Paddy. Unfortunately, it would cost money that would be better spent elsewhere.

Sorry Graham, it only refers to numbers of posts on here, not footballing prowess (of which I have none).

The beauty of the internet is anonymity, so I really couldn't say who I am referring to. Perhaps though, we could ask him if he would donate his services in return for a spell as manager?

We do still turn out in black and white, but as for 'playing...'

How about moving the family stand into the Derek Pavis then we get the lane end back?

No modifications to the ground required.

It's a thought.

I'll pass this on to the Trust Board, but I can't see that it would be possible to change it this season.

I would have real concerns about the Family Stand being used for away fans. It has a purpose built creche underneath and is the only non-smoking part of the ground.

I would also worry if away supporters were transferred to Z Block, because of it's proximity to the youngsters.

It would be good to have a decent kop, but not sure where the answer lies.
