Hello there,

Given the recent events at the Club, I wondered whether the Trust Board has anything to say on the matter. In particular:

1) If the national media is to be believed, the outstanding issues with the fit and proper persons test between Notts and the Football League are causing a bit of uncertainty amongst the fans. Has the Trust spoken to anyone at the Club, to address the fans' concerns and seek reassurance?

2) The Trust Board, which has a stated aim to "represent the interests of the community in the running of the Club", would surely have been fully satisfied themselves that Munto were "fit and proper" before recommending Munto's bid to the membership. (To fail to do this would, in my view, represent a serious dereliction of duty.) Perhaps the Trust Board could reassure supporters by publicly outlining the specific due diligence steps it undertook to ensure that Munto were "fit and proper" prior to recommending the take-over to the membership?

3) In the view of the Trust Board, is the departure of Sol Campbell after such a short time at the Club a cause for concern?

Thanks.

Martin.

Further to Martin's posting, on question 2 I would like to ask what Russell King's involvement was in the takeover negotiations. Was he the honourable individual that we heard about from the Trust Board and whose promises helped sway the majority of the Trust membership?

According to the Guardian (and reports elsewhere) he has been an integral figure:

A key figure representing the offshore company that owns Notts County can be revealed as Russell King.

King, a friend and business associate of County's executive chairman, Peter Trembling, is understood to have played a major role in negotiations with the supporters' trust over the purchase of the club by Qadbak, through its Munto subsidiary, and has been involved in the recruitment of several senior figures at Meadow Lane.

A source close to one of them told the Guardian that all contract negotiations about joining Notts County were conducted by King and Nathan Willett, one of King's associates.

The source said: "King and Willett and Munto appointed Trembling: they are the representatives of the companies that bought the club. They are clearly the liaison with the owners of the club, but you always come up against a brick wall when you look to find out who owns Qadbak." The true identity of the owners remains unclear, even to the Football League and, therefore, they have yet to clear the League's fit-and-proper-person test. The only detail that has been offered publicly is that Qadbak represents the interests of "European and Middle Eastern families".

I would also like to ask why Glenn Rolley compared Haydn Green's wish for privacy to that of the current investors, saying in today's Observer of Haydn Green 'there was only one person on the Trust Board who had met him and that was because he went to school with him...'

That's simply untrue Glenn. Trust board members met with Haydn Green on many occasions. His identity was always known to the Trust board.

1. I have had communications with the Club during the last few weeks and no concerns were forthcoming with respect to the media frenzy.

2 . There were different levels of involvement both a club and Trust board levels, purely down to confidentiality. This was to be expected with this kind of business transaction. Individuals names other than those already disclosed are subject to that confidentiality.

The Club and Trust Board made their decisions on the information provided to them. JAH stated in the takeover documentation, ‘Roy Parker and I have travelled to the Middle East and met with Munto, their advisors and backers and we are comfortable that everything is above board. In addition, a UK regulated (FSA) Merchant Bank, First London Group plc, advised on the transaction. They have particular expertise in giving advice within the sport and leisure sectors, as well as extensive experience in the Middle East. In the opinion of the boards, the advisors and all the remaining shareholders, such due diligence has been done to our full satisfaction and the deal has been unanimously recommended without reservation to Trust members. ‘

3. Sol Campbell, I’m personally disappointed in Sol as a person. He is an experienced professional who knew exactly, or should have done, what he was signing up to. He has let many people down none less than the supporters.

Our Trust has a good relationship with SD. I was contacted by SD last Friday, out of courtesy, saying they had made a statement to the Guardian. I would not expect SD to say anything else and fully understand the reasons for their statement. I conveyed my thoughts and gratitude to SD for contacting me.

(See further down this Thread re: media knocking our football club)

The wellbeing of Notts County Football Club was and should always be the Trusts primary concern.

The statement about Haydn Green was purely to demonstrate that being anonymous was not necessarily devious plot. As portrayed in the Observer.

The media have been looking to knock our football club in everyway they can over the past few weeks.

Interestingly ‘The Sun’ contacted me about the Sol Campbell incident with an angle to knock Munto and our football club. But because I didn’t knock our football club but questioned Sol’s integrity they chose to print someone else’s statement that was prepared to give them their ammunition.

With respect to the Trust Board meeting HG, as this interview was given last Saturday lunchtime my reference to the Trust Board was completely true. It was intentionally aimed at demonstrating how anonymous Haydn wanted to be.

Eh? As misleading comments go this one is a corker. I had to read this half a dozen times before concluding that you weren't actually rewriting history but stating that none of the current Trust Board had met Haydn Green. Given that County's saviour tragically died some time ago and that the current Board is only 5 strong with some relatively new co-opted members this is hardly surprising is it?

And as for chosing not to question NCFC perhaps you should read the Society Rules. NCST is an independent body. When they called me for comment I didn't say anything about Sol. Instead when asked about whether I knew who the owners are or what their motives were I gave them a truthful answer.

If the Trust are prepared to dodge awkward questions from the media by giving misleading answers, what's the point asking questions of them on here or anywhere else ?
